HIV-AIDS Prevention

hiv-auds-prevention-inset-2With J&J support, INMED’s “Prevention, the Sooner the Better” program successfully changed attitudes toward HIV-AIDS in high-risk communities in São Paulo, Brazil. This initiative increased participation in testing, reduced stigma among both youth and adults and opened communication channels with parents and teachers to address sensitive subjects, such as adolescent sexuality and exploitation.

The program was so successful that an age-appropriate HIV-AIDS prevention curriculum for adolescents was launched in Manaus, Brazil with J&J’s support in 2014. In addition to hiv-aidsaddressing STI and HIV-AIDS prevention, the program emphasized reproductive health education, negotiation and self-esteem.
