Soil-transmitted Helminth Treatment and Control
INMED began purchasing the deworming medicine mebendazole from Johnson & Johnson/Janssen in Belgium in 1986—and have worked in formal partnership on mass deworming programs in Brazil and Peru since 1993.
Johnson & Johnson began donating Vermox™ brand mebendazole in Peru in 2006 and today is providing enough treatment for 6 million individuals annually through a national campaign endorsed by the Ministry of Health and with formal agreements among regional governments and departments of health and education. Deworming is carried out together with preventive health, sanitation, hygiene and handwashing education delivered via a variety of venues, such as schools, community health campaigns and through community health workers.
