A Family on the Edge Keeps Their Home: Eduardo’s Story
Supporting three sons can be stressful at times for single father Eduardo, especially since one of his children has significant developmental disabilities. Having no reliable means of transportation made it extremely difficult for Eduardo to maintain steady employment and take his son to medical and therapy appointments. Not knowing how to budget, he routinely overspent to the point where he could not pay his rent.
Through INMED’s Family Homelessness Prevention program, Eduardo gained access to a low-cost car, avoided a utility shut-off with emergency financial aid, and secured counseling for his son. His children, who had been sleeping on the floor, also received brand new beds. Eduardo learned to prioritize expenses by paying his rent first. He still receives guidance from his case manager to ensure he’s budgeting correctly and successfully juggling his responsibilities as a working father. His case manager also works with him to address urgent needs for his children’s health and well-being.
“The program has provided me and my family a big support, especially since I am a single father with three kids. It has let me continue to work hard for my family.”
“Without this program, I wouldn’t know what to do,” Eduardo said. “The program has helped me to pay my electric and gas, bills and I was able to buy food and feed my children. The program has provided me and my family a big support, especially since I am a single father with three kids. It has let me continue to work hard for my family.”
Without INMED’s help, Eduardo and his boys could have become homeless, decreasing the chance of his son attending his critical medical appointments. INMED was able to keep the family together in their home by providing them with the tools and skills they needed to move forward successfully.
